Rye

Let's Learn

Rye City’s elementary school population is approximately 1,700 students enrolled in three neighborhood elementary schools serving grades K through 5.  Kindergarten is three half-day and two full-day sessions per week.  All children then graduate to the Rye Middle School, which shares a campus with the Rye High School; the number of students enrolled in grades 6 through 12 is approximately 1,300.  According to US News and World Report, Rye High School is among the top high schools in the nation.  Ninety-eight percent of Rye High School graduates enroll in college.  Seniors scored well above the average New York State SAT scores last year.  The mission of the school district is to develop a “life-long learner who can thrive in a global environment as a self-reliant and socially responsible citizen.”

The High School features a turf athletic field for the football, lacrosse, and soccer teams.  A great night out is attending a Friday Night Football game under the lights at Nugent Stadium.  Since the Rye Garnets have a stellar history (they were state champions in 2005, 2007, and 2008), many fans of all ages come out to cheer the gridiron athletes.  Rye is also home to The Resurrection School, a coeducational Catholic school, for students in pre-k through 8th grade.  Rye Country Day School, a private, co-educational school has students from kindergarten to 12th grade enrolled.  There are numerous private nursery schools throughout Rye for children not yet eligible for public kindergarten.

Kids’ S.P.A.C.E. is a non-profit community organization which provides before- and after-school care and enrichment for the elementary students of Rye.  The Rye YMCA also provides some childcare services and programs for children of working parents.
