Larchmont is the part of the Town of Mamaroneck. Together they share over 12 miles of picturesque coastline on the Long island Sound. The harbors, coves and inlets create a setting of unparalleled beauty. Mamaroneck is one of the oldest settlements in Westchester County. It was purchased from the Siwanoy Indians in 1661 and incorporated as a village in 1895.
Larchmont began as a Quaker farming town, but soon the area along the water known as The Manor evolved into a summer retreat for wealthy New Yorkers and the Broadway theater community. A sophisticated place with a small-town vibe, Larchmont residents are involved and engaged in their community. The Unincorporated area is a rolling, wooded part of the township with dramatic rocky outcroppings, streams, and lakes. It is in neither village, but shares a postal address with Larchmont. There is one school district for the three areas that comprise the township of Mamaroneck, but they each have their own municipal governments and services.
